The Institute for Visual Studies presents

XU BING in Harrisonsburg

Since the 1980s, Xu Bing has been investigating the relationship between image and text in his art. He is interested in the tension between language and culture, and in the mystery of communication. His most famous installation, Book from the Sky has been recognized as a work of extraordinary significance. Since his arrival in America, in 1990, he has been striving to create an art that can communicate across cultures. In his current project, Book from the Ground, he is attempting to create a universal visual language.
