One afternoon, Anthony arrives unexpectedly at the door of his classmate, Caroline, bearing a beat-up copy of Walt Whitman’s Leaves of Grass, an urgent assignment from their English teacher. Homebound due to illness, Caroline hasn’t been to school in months, but she is as quick and sardonic as Anthony is athletic, sensitive, and popular. As these two let down their guards and share their secrets, this seemingly mundane poetry project unlocks a much deeper mystery that unites them. Adult language. More

This Tony Award-winning musical is based on the true story of Leo Frank, a Brooklyn-raised Jew living in Georgia in 1913. Leo is plant superintendent of a pencil factory where 13-year-old Mary Phagan works. When the girl is found murdered, Leo is immediately suspected, arrested and put on trial. This moving theatrical experience about the dangers of prejudice and ignorance—and the endurance of love and hope against all odds—features students from JMU’s School of Theatre and Dance and School of Music.
