Are you feeling stressed?  Overwhelmed?  Do you find it difficult to live in the present moment?

JMU CommonHealth invites you to participate in our Fall 2016 Wellness Campaign: “Keep Calm and Be Well”.  This campaign is intended to help faculty and staff become more aware of their mental and emotional health.  The campaign will run October 10 – December 2, 2016.  During the campaign we are encouraging faculty and staff to take advantage of activities on and off campus that will foster mindfulness and improve emotional wellness. 

Wellness Cards will help you keep track of your wellness activities.  Completed Wellness Cards will be entered into a random drawing for a $100 gift card from The Studio Salon & Day Spa.

Week One:

Here's what you'll need to get started:

  1. A Wellness Card to keep track of your progress through the campaign. 
  2. A list of Wellness Events both on and off campus that will not only help you fill up your card but help you create wellness in your life.
  3. The Five Senses Mindfulness Exercise - Use your senses to feel more centered on a tough day!
  4. Pumpkin coloring page, because who doesn't like to color?

Week Two:

MINDFUL MONDAY:  10 Ways to Bring Mindfulness to Your Work Day

Developing mindfulness in everyday life takes effort.  This article provides 10 suggestions on bringing mindfulness to your busy workday. 

Week Three:

MINDFUL MONDAY:  A Mindful Minute:  3 Fun Mindfulness Exercises for Kids

Learn how to “breath like a bee, create magnetic hands, and dissolve a thought” in this article! It’s all about kids and mindfulness!


We always think about adults needing mindfulness but what about kids? This link provides an activity for kids to calm down and be mindful of their thoughts.  All things calming involve glitter, right? 

Week Four:

MINDFUL MONDAY:  Pocket Mindfulness

Being “too busy” is no excuse to ditch your mindfulness efforts…in fact, busy lifestyles require that we are even more focused on mindfulness.  This quick article will give you 6 mindfulness exercises you can start practicing NOW!

Mindfulness, Work, and You!

Work and stress seem to go hand-in-hand lately.  In Mindfulness, Work, and You! Dr. Elisha Goldstein points out “Stress is less about the actual event and more about our perception of the event or the way we relate to it.”  If this statement sparks your interest and you would like to learn more about how to practice mindfulness at work, check out Dr. Goldstein’s article!

Confidence, daily happiness, mental health and productivity are four things we strive for.  Why not make those things a little easier to obtain? This article explains a service call SHINE Text, a daily positive message developed by a JMU alumni, right on your phone!

The holidays can be a time of celebration with family as well as a time of stress.  This article gives some great tips on keeping yourself “in the moment” and less stressed during Thanksgiving!

Week Seven:

MINDFUL MONDAY:  Mindfulness at Work

“The concept of mindfulness – awareness and observation of the present moment without reactivity or judgment – has gone mainstream.” 

This article will review existing literature on mindfulness and explore the link between mindfulness and well-being in the workplace.
