Fall 2006 Honors Update

September 11, 2006

Congratulations!  You've made it through your first two weeks of classes and we hope that all is going well for you.  We hope you have a great weekend!  Here are a few things that you should know about.

Honors Scholars and Subject-Area Honors students should plan to take at least one honors course every semester until their requirements have been met.  What types of courses would satisfy this requirement?  You should take one (or more) of the following each semester to fulfill this requirement:  an honors option, an honors seminar or a course with an honors section.  In unusual circumstances in which you cannot take any honors courses in a given semester, the Director or Associate Director may grant a waiver of this requirement for that semester, if requested by the student.  It is important that you make this request so that, when we see your transcript has no honors courses listed for that semester, we will know that you have not dropped out of the program.  We should have documentation in your file granting you the waiver for that semester.

Please read your Honors Program Handbook and Senior Project Handbook carefully to answer many of your questions.  Both handbooks are available on our website   http://www.jmu.edu/honorsprog/     If you need to discuss questions or concerns with us, please call our office (568-6953) to schedule an appointment.  Stay in touch.  We are here to help you!

The printer in our lab is now charging $.03 per page.  You should be prepared to swipe your JACard every time you print.  Make sure you have money in your FLEX account to do this.
