Honors Update

The second annual General Education Undergraduate Conference will be held on Friday, October 6, 2006, 2-6 PM, to kick off Family Weekend. The conference will showcase samples of noteworthy, creative, and lively work that JMU students have produced in our general education courses fall 2005-Spring 2006. Over fifty students will present their work in fifteen concurrent sessions. Presentations range from academic papers to debates and video presentations. After the presentations, a JMU faculty moderator for each session will offer comments and facilitate discussion between audience members and the presenters. Admission is freeand the conference is open to the entire JMU community. When: 2-6 pmon Friday, October 6

Please arrive early enough for Brown Bag lectures to assure getting a seat. Because of limited space in the Hillcrest reception area, those who arrive after the room has reached its capacity will be turned away. We are sorry! To avoid violating fire safety rules, we cannot over-crowd the room.
The Graduate School at the University of Maryland invites you to its Eleventh Annual Maryland Graduate School Preview Day set for Friday, October 6, 2006. The Alternative Spring Break (ASB) program is currently recruiting DOMESTIC & LONG-DISTANCE TRIP LEADERS for its 2007 Spring Break trips & HURRICANE RELIEF SITE LEADERS for its MAY 2007 trip! As a Spring Break Trip Leader you would have the opportunity to co-lead a group of 10-12 fellow JMU students to do service with a Social or Environmental Issue that you are passionate about. As a Hurricane Relief Site Leader you would co-lead a group of 40-55 JMU students & faculty/staff to do relief-based service work in the Gulf Coast. Informational meetings for both leadership opportunities took place SEPTEMBER 18th & SEPTEMBER 19th, but APPLICATIONS ARE AVAILABLE ON THEIR WEBSITE, http://www.jmu.edu/csl/asb, and are DUE FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 22nd @ NOON. JMU's School of Music announces its 2nd season of concerts at the Kennedy Center. Each concert features faculty or student performances. There will be a bus going from the campus to each concert and you are welcome to go. This year's concerts are: Monday, October 9, Carrie Stevens, mezzo soprano, Eric Ruple, piano, and Beth Chandler, flute. Wednesday, January 31, The Music of John Hilliard. If you plan to attend The Laramie Project, you will be expected to pay for your own ticket. While we do have a block of seats reserved for us, each student attending must purchase a ticket. ($8 Admission, $6 JACard, Seniors)
