HONORS ADMISSION PROCESS DEADLINES DECISIONS ADMISSION CRITERIA

HONORS ADMISSION PROCESS:
- You must first apply to JMU before applying to the Honors Program.
- Access the Honors Program application by using the same User-ID and password that you used on your JMU application.
- Send an UNOFFICIAL transcript to the Honors Program. Your application cannot be considered without this transcript. We do not have access to the transcript you sent to the JMU Admissions Office.
- SAT and/or ACT scores should be entered in the designated field on the Honors Program application. Official test scores are not required to be sent to the Honors Program office seperately.
- Recommendation letters, resumes, mid-term grades, AP scores, SAT II scores, and ACT scores are NOT REQUIRED.
- Do not wait to receive your decision from JMU before applying to the Honors Program. You can apply anytime until the February 29 deadline.

DEADLINES:
HONORS EARLY ACTION: NOVEMBER 15 HONORS REGULAR DECISION: February 29
- All students may apply anytime through February 29. However, students who applied to JMU through the JMU Early Action process have the option to apply to the Honors Program through the Honors Early Action process OR Honors Regular Decision .
- Applications must be received AND transcripts must be postmarked (if mailed) by these dates for applications to be considered. Honors Early Action applicants whose transcripts are received after the November 15 deadline will be deferred to Honors Regular Decision.
- Honors Early Action applicants do not have an advantage over Honors Regular Decision applicants in the selection process. Additionally, some Honors Early Action applications may be deferred to Honors Regular Decision.
- Decisions made by the Honors Program have absolutely no bearing on admission decisions made by JMU.

DECISIONS:
EVERY applicant will receive a decision letter mailed to their home address.
HONORS EARLY ACTION APPLICANTS: Letters will be mailed the week of February 6.
- Student must have applied to JMU through the Early Action process AND applied to the Honors Program by November 15.
- If an Honors Early Action applicant is deferred by the JMU Admissions Office, a decision letter will be mailed with the Honors Regular Decision letters.
HONORS REGULAR DECISION APPLICANTS: Letters will be mailed the week of April 1.
- Student must have applied to the Honors Program by February 29.
- If an applicant applied through the Honors Early Action process and was deffered to Honors Regular Decision, letters will be mailed the week of April 1.
DECISIONS WILL NOT BE DISCLOSED VIA E-MAIL OR TELEPHONE.

ADMISSION CRITERIA:
The entering class is limited to 200 students.
Admissions decisions are based on:
- high school grades
- standardized test scores
- extracurricular activities
- leadership
Most applicants will have:
- at least a 1280 combined reading/math SAT (or 30 ACT) AND
- all A’s (or mostly all A’s) in core courses, including honors and AP courses AND
- significant extracurricular and leadership experiences
We may consider students who may fall short in ONE of these areas.
