Check our website, http://www.jmu.edu/honorsprog/, for the spring 2007 Honors Events Calendar, the Brown Bag series, and the Honors Symposiums.  These will be posted later this week.

 

January 19, 2007:  Deadline to submit proposal to Honors Program office if you wish to be considered for funding to attend & present your research at the Southern Regional Honors Conference in Charlotte, NC, March 29-31.  See 10-27-06 Update on our website for more details.  We encourage you to submit proposals and/or attend the conference!

Some honors courses for spring have been combined or cancelled.  You will be notified if you are impacted.  A revised spring course list will be posted this week on our website.

Since many of you are already planning several semesters ahead, you should be aware that many of our honors GenEd courses and honors seminars occur regularly.  We will post the course offerings for fall '05-spring '07 on our website to facilitate your long-range planning.

1. WashingtonCenterInternship Program for spring and summer 2007

spring deadline extended to Nov. 30 and the early competitive deadline for summer          

honors scholarships is Feb. 2, 2007.Many scholarships are also available to students

2.New DC-London Internship Program         10 days in D.C. and 8 weeks in London

    for a summer internship--priced very competitively.  Deadline Feb. 2, 2007

3. Inside Washington'07: The New Congress / Politics and the Media

    One or two weeks in D.C.  A great opportunity to be on Capitol Hill the day of the

    swearing in of the 110th Congress and a new Speaker of the House! Bob Schieffer of

    CBS and Helen Thomas are among the speakers during the Politics and the Media

    Week.  Other high profile journalists are also expected to speak.Same cost as 2006

4. Leaders on Leadership '07           One-week seminar in May for honors students and

    faculty and those in leadership programs.  Early Deadline: February 1, 2007.

Scholarships are available for schools that send 5 or more students to the Leaders

on Leadership '07program and 10 or more for the Inside Washington'07 seminar.

Last Brown Bag this semester:  November 29, Dr. Oris Griffin, Associate Professor of Education, will present "Helping Partnering High Schools Prepare Students for Life after High School."

This is the last time you need to sign up for a seat at a Brown Bag talk!!!!

 

Last Symposium this semester:  November 29, Dr. Paul Bierly III, Zane Showker Professor of Entrepreneurship and Director of the Center for Entrepreneurship in the College of Business, will presnt "Managing Virtual Teams."
