HONORS UPDATE

OCTOBER 27, 2006

SPRING HONORS COURSES will be listed on our website and are attached to this email:  http://www.jmu.edu/honorsprog/

Freshmen should make arrangements to meet with their advisors before registering.

Remember:  You must be registered for at least one honors course each semester until you finish your requirements.  You may take more than one, but it is recommended that you NOT take more than three in one semester.

Registration:  You will be given a registration time a window of 48 hours in which to complete your registration for spring courses.  Check your time on e-campus so that you will know when to do it.  Have all decisions about classes made, fines paid, and holds and overrides taken care of before you begin the process so that you can complete your registration during your window.  The registrar's website http://www.jmu.edu/registrar/ has important information and dates to know before you begin, especially if you have never gone through this process before.  If you miss your assigned time, you will need to wait until all students have registered before you are allowed to register, and you may encounter classes that are already closed because they are full.  The course adjustment period, beginning November 18 and lasting through the early part of the spring semester, is a time you may make adjustments to your schedule.

Honors Option:  Students may use the Honors Option to earn honors credit for any non-honors upper level (200 or above) JMU course not regularly offered as an honors course.  Honors students may attempt honors options for their honors electives.  Within the first two weeks of class, the student should secure an Honors Option Application (print it out from the Honors Program Handbook on our website, p. 43; read about it on

p. 20), meet with the professor, negotiate a contract following the examples on page 20 in the Handbook, and return the completed application to the Honors Office.
