SPRING HONORS COURSES LISTING

Honors course offerings for spring term will be attached to next week's Update.  This list will also be available on our website.  Freshmen should make arrangements to meet with their advisors before registering.

 

Remember:  You must be registered for at least one honors course each semester until you finish your requirements.  You may take more than one, but it is recommended that you NOT take more than three in one semester.

Spring semester advance registration begins October 30.  Students will be assigned a registration appointment time.

Oxford, Cambridge, St Andrews: Study abroad for a year or a

The Inside Washington '07 (Dec. 30-Jan. 12) and Leaders on Leadership '07 (May 12-19) Academic Seminars are accepting applications.  The January seminar coincides with the swearing-in of the new 110th Congress and will explore the topics "The New Congress" and "Politics and the Media."  For applications, email seminars@twc.edu or see the seminar page website: http://www.twc.edu/students/seminars.shtml You may opt for either a 1 week or 2 week length for the January seminar.  Prices are:  one week - $1,295 or two weeks - $1,695 and include housing.  Food, transportation and personal expenses are not included.  Deadlines for the January seminar:  November 13 (early, guaranteed space) and December 8 (regular).  Deadlines for the May seminar: February 1 (early, guaranteed space) and April 1 (regular).

INTERN.   2007 SUMMER INSTITUTES June 9 August 4, 2007.  Georgetown University, Washington, DC.    www.dcinternships.org  NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR EARLY DEADLINE OF DECEMBER 1, 2006.  **PRIORITY CONSIDERATION FOR NCHC HONORS STUDENTS**                    Sponsored by The Fund for American Studies in partnership with Georgetown University, the Institutes combine substantive internships, courses for academic credit, career development activities, site briefings and lectures led by prominent policy experts. Students from NCHC honors programs will be given priority in scholarship awards from our general scholarship fund.  Honors students should indicate on their application materials that they are a member of an honors program and list their honors activities on their resume.  In addition, students applying by the Early Deadline of December 1, 2006 are given preference in admissions and scholarship decisions and will receive a 5% discount on their tuition balance.  Four eight-week programs are offered in the following subject areasPolitics and Economics, Journalism, Business and Government Affairs, Nonprofit and Community Service.  For an informational brochure: https://www.dcinternships.org/tfas/brochure/index.asp

Information & application for the Southern Regional Conference of the National Collegiate Honors Council will be available in January.  It will be held in Charlotte, NCfrom March 29-31.  This would be an excellent opportunity to develop your best papers from this semester into a talk to present at the conference!

DON'T FORGET TO COMPLETE 50 HOPs THIS YEAR IN ORDER TO REMAIN AN HONORS SCHOLAR!

 

BROWN BAG:  October 18, 12:20, Hillcrest, Dr. Lynn Fichter, Professor of Geology and Environment, will present "Inference Systems and How We See the World."  This is also a Wellness Passport Event, so there will be no pre-lecture signup to reserve your seat.  First-come-first-served seating.

 

FRESHMAN HONORS STUDENTS CLASS MEETING:  October 18, 5:00, ISAT/CS 159.  Important information on registering for spring classes will be covered.  Attendance is required.
