The Athletic Training Education Program at JMU was approved by the National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA) in 1982 and is currently accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE). JMU's program was the first accredited undergraduate program in the Commonwealth of Virginia and maintains a rich tradition of producing outstanding athletic training clinicians and educators. Our alumni base extends throughout the United States, working in most settings where athletic trainers are employed. We encourage you to check out our program information. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions.

Our Mission

The mission of the James Madison University Undergraduate Athletic Training Curriculum is to provide a comprehensive, progressive, educational and clinical foundation to prepare the multi-skilled professional for a career in athletic training. The Athletic Training Curriculum is a leader in education and service, encompassing current research and formal instruction in the prevention, recognition, evaluation, and rehabilitation of the physically active in various settings, including university and regional communities. The student has the opportunity to develop applied technical and clinical skills incorporating analytical problem-solving abilities to assist with the daily operation of traditional and non-traditional athletic training settings.
