Parents and Family

Thank you for your interest and commitment to James Madison University and we hope that your son or daughter is successful and happy while a student here.

Entering college is a landmark time for both children and parents. It is an opportunity for your student to learn how to make many of their own decisions, while you begin to 'let go' of some of the involvement you have had in their daily lives.

The UHC Health Center staff is interested and concerned about your student's health during their education here. We are very aware of all the roles your student has here as (s)he learns, works, and socializes with others on campus. We also know that good health keeps students in classes, maintains their energy and contentment and contributes to their overall educational success.

The JMU Health Center has a team consisting of a full-time Medical Director, three full-time physicians, four full-time Nurse Practitioners, a Certified Physicians Assistant and numerous Registered Nurses on staff. We also have a Medical Technologist, and health educators. I am confident that you and your student will find that the UHC staff has a very positive and caring attitude toward each of their patients.

We greatly value the confidentiality of your student's health information, driven by  respect for your student's privacy, our medical ethics and The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).

Students may request the Health Center discuss their specific case with a family physician, parent, professor, or other designated individual. The student need only sign the appropriate Medical Record Release form giving us their permission to release/discuss their information with another party.

Additional information about the University Health Center services is available on our services page.

Special information for parents can be found on the James Madison University Office of Parent Relations website at http://www.jmu.edu/parents/.

We encourage each student to ask questions about their health and safety and to be actively engaged in their health care and treatment. We hope your student has a healthy successful year at JMU!
