James Madison University Honored with Four ADDY® Awards

A public service campaign developed for the University Health Center’s Substance Abuse Prevention program at James Madison University was recognized Feb. 27 with four ADDY® awards from the American Advertising Federation of Hampton Roads.

Developed by Polizos & Company Communications in Virginia Beach, the JMU Health Center’s Substance Abuse Prevention “Your Call” alcohol prevention campaign was awarded two silver and two gold ADDY® awards. The campaign was designed to examine the impact of hazardous drinking on and off campus by creatively highlighting the associated risks and encouraging the use of protective strategies. The “Your Call” campaign included a mix of traditional and alternative marketing tactics including exterior and interior transit signage, online public service announcements, direct marketing and on-campus promotions.

“We are honored that our campuswide alcohol prevention campaign has been recognized by the advertising industry,” said Paige Allen Hawkins, associate director of the University Health Center’s Substance Abuse Prevention at JMU. “Our goal is to raise awareness among JMU students about the negative consequences associated with high-risk drinking and we believe the campaign’s creative strategies and targeted messaging have been instrumental in this effort.”

Established in 2009, the University Health Center’s Substance Abuse Prevention strives to increase knowledge and awareness of alcohol and other drug issues and decrease the negative consequences associated with high-risk drinking and illegal drug use.

The ADDY® Awards, conducted annually by the American Advertising Federation’s 200-member advertising clubs throughout the United States, is the advertising industry’s largest and most representative competition and is designed to recognize and reward creative excellence in the art of advertising.
