The Mu Tau chapter of Tau Kappa Epsilon at James Madison University is the oldest fraternity at James Madison. First chartered in 1969, Mu Tau continued to thrive in the comming years. First housed in what is now the Joshua Wilton house in Harrisonburg, VA, Mu Tau grew under strong leadership and with much determination. The Tekes at JMU then moved out of their house, and into a house on "greek-row" on campus. This is where they stayed until they later moved back off campus. This is when Mu Tau moved into the house at 635 South Main Street in Harrisonburg, VA, which is where they currently reside. Shortly after, the Mu Tau chapter lost its national charter from Tau Kappa Epsilon, due to financial and other problems in the chapter. In the following years, the members of Mu Tau struggled to regain their charter, and in Spring 1997 they finally did so. Since then the members of Mu Tau have worked with the administration at James Madison University to regain their status as a recognized orgainization at JMU.
