Karina Kline-Gabel has served as a Lecturer of Spanish for the Department of Foreign Languages, Literatures, & Cultures since 2003 and coordinates the 100-232 level language courses. She received her M.A. from the University of Virginia and her B.A. from JMU. A native of Harrisonburg, she was raised in a bilingual/bicultural home and has served as an advocate for the local Latino population in Harrisonburg and Rockingham County for the last 20 years. In addition to teaching language, film, and community practicum courses, she is also the Faculty Associate for the Center for Instructional Technology at JMU. Karina is an active member of the JMU Latin American & Caribbean Studies Committee as the coordinator the the Cultura y Comunidad series and is currently serving on the state board for VALHEN (Virginia Latino Higher Education Network) and the committee for Senator Warner’s Emerging Leaders. Karina is also excited to have recently received a Diversity Grant and has founded the advocacy group, The Madison Hispanic Faculty Caucus.
