Financial Aid News

  • We will begin sending prospective students their 2015-16 preliminary award notices around the first of April. These notices will be available in the Applicant Center, which is where you learned of your acceptance to JMU. An explanation of the preliminary nature of the awards is contained within the notice. The process of emailing 2015-16 official award notices to all students will begin in late June. Those notices will be sent to the students’ JMU email accounts, and instructions on how to accept financial aid contained within those notices can be found at Self Service. Parents who are eligible to apply for a Parent PLUS Loan in 2015-16 will also receive an award notice. Their notice will be sent to the email address listed on the FAFSA and will contain instructions on how they can apply for the loan.
  • Spring Financial Aid Newsletter covers many important topics, including the FAFSA priority filing date of March 1, summer financial aid, exit loan counseling requirements for May graduates, loan repayment, satisfactory progress requirements, 2015-16 financial aid awards, scholarships for 2015-16 and much more.
  • IMPORTANT: The 2015-16 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is available. Apply now to ensure that the Department of Education processes your FAFSA by March 1st, our priority deadline. If necessary, you may estimate your income and make corrections later.

  • In order to receive financial aid, you must be meeting Satisfactory Academic Progress(SAP). You can review the requirements to ensure your eligibility to receive financial aid at JMU.
