Good Eating = Good Health


Eating the right foods can help you get healthy and stay healthy.

But what are the right foods? And how much should you eat? Food labels on packaged foods and beverages and the Food Pyramid give you the information you need. Just what do all those words on the Food Labels mean? Just how much is a serving anyway?

The following websites can tell you all that and more. You and your family are just a few clicks away from good eating and good health.

At, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration website, you will find a sample food label for macaroni and cheese. Each part of the food label has an explanation, such as what is a calorie, nutrient, and percent of daily value.

The FDA also has an online quiz you can take to test how well you understand the information on a food label. Go to and answer five questions about information contained on food labels.

The Food Pyramid is a visual explanation of what you need to eat each day. The Food Pyramid shows you:

· the five food groups
· how many servings you should eat from each group each day

The Food Pyramid makes it easy to eat healthy - if you know how much food equals one serving. Eating 11 servings from the bread and cereal group isn't nearly as much as it sounds. One slice of bread or one cup of cold cereal is one serving.
