Mathematics

Participants of the 2011 6-12 Mathematics Academy worked to (1) develop a deeper knowledge of mathematical topics in the middle and secondary curriculum and (2) explore how to use this knowledge for the benefit of their students. To accomplish these goals, Academy sessions and activities challenged participants to think critically about the mathematics they teach, solve rich problems, and consider how students can develop conceptual understanding of key mathematical ideas.  The Academy faculty, featuring master teachers and mathematics experts, used a variety of current methods and appropriate technology to provide a rich learning experience that participants can bring to their own classrooms.

“I really enjoyed the math presenters.  I am always shopping for new techniques to engage students.  I thought that the math presenters did a good job of engaging us and sharing excellent techniques by modeling them for us!!  All the math presenters were top drawer!!!”
