Mathematics

The 6-12 Mathematics Academy was designed to engage teachers in exploring ways to support the mathematical problem solving skills of middle and high school students. The Academy featured master teachers who modeled research-based teaching strategies. Sessions included ample time for teachers to engage in mathematics problem solving to deepen their knowledge of mathematics. The content emphasis for middle school teachers was on the knowledge and skills necessary for preparing students for success in algebra. This included proportional reasoning and pattern finding with applications in geometric reasoning.  Session topics for high school teachers emphasized geometry and advanced algebra concepts. Additional sessions were scheduled to explore strategies for attending to the various learning needs of students, using technology as a tool for problem solving, and planning and implementing meaningful classroom assessments.
