The goal of the Content Teaching Academy is to provide high quality professional programs for the educators of Virginia by offering in-depth studies in a range of content areas and pedagogical emphases that engage participants in critical dialogues of practice.

• The Participants are educators who understand that teaching is a life-long learning endeavor.  They vary from those who are relatively new to the field to those who are veteran teachers.
• Completion of an Academy constitutes an institute, which is one of the options that may be used for veteran teachers to attain "highly-qualified" status under NCLB. • The Faculty of each Academy is comprised of scholars and master teachers who understand the challenges associated with today's classroom.

The Content Teaching Academy is a collaborative effort between James Madison University and the Virginia Department of Education.
