The theme for the 2008 Content Teaching Academy is "Educating with an eye to the future". The Academies are structured to stimulate thinking about how, we as educators can stay ahead of the curve as we move into the future.

 The goal of the Content Teaching Academy is to provide high quality professional programs for the educators of Virginia by offering in-depth studies in a range of content areas and pedagogical emphases that engage participants in critical dialogues of practice.

• The Participants are educators who understand that teaching is a life-long learning endeavor.  They vary from those who are relatively new to the field to those who are veteran teachers.
• Completion of an Academy with the exception of the ASOL Academy, constitutes an institute, which is one of the options that may be used for veteran teachers to attain "highly-qualified" status under NCLB. • The Faculty of each Academy is comprised of scholars and master teachers who understand the challenges associated with today's classroom.

The Content Teaching Academy is a collaborative effort between James Madison University and the Virginia Department of Education.
