COE Diversity Statement

In the College of Education, we work to disrupt, interrupt, and change systemic inequities in P-12 schools, adult education, and higher education by demanding equal and equitable rights, opportunities, and treatment for all; to produce inclusive and equitable participation, power, access, impacts, and outcomes for all groups, by embedding educational justice as part of our culture through people, places, programs, policies, and processes.

Preparing Teachers for Early Childhood and Elementary Settings

The Department of Early, Elementary, and Reading Education offers graduate and undergraduate programs in literacy, early, and elementary education that are approved by the Virginia Department of Education and accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education.

All programs have an extensive fieldwork component that assures students varied opportunities for experiences working with children and families. Programs and faculty are housed in Memorial Hall.
