New CSD Faculty Receives Award

PHOTO: Dr. Kia JohnsonAt her May, 2008 commencement ceremony at Vanderbilt University when she was awarded the Ph.D., Dr. Kia Johnson, who will be a new CSD faculty member as of Fall 08, also received the The Dr. Vera Stevens Chatman Award for Outstanding Graduate/ Professional Student which recognizes an African-American graduating graduate or professional student who has exemplified excellence in their field.  Dr. Vera Stevens Chatman is the first Fisk University student to enroll in the joint Fisk/Vanderbilt PhD Program in Psychology and one of the first black females to receive a PhD in Psychology (1976) from Peabody College of Vanderbilt University.

Dr. Johnson and Dr. Christy Ludlow, currently with NIH but who will join the CSD faculty in Fall, 09, have just been awarded a Research Mentoring-Pair Travel Award from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association to begin their mentee-mentor research relationship sooner rather than later!
