CISAT Sponsors 'Put Up Your Dukes!' Duke Dog Statue
When the ‘Put Up Your Dukes!’ project was announced as part of JMU’s Centennial Celebration, CISAT decided to participate by sponsoring their own miniature Duke Dog statue. Associate Dean, Sharon Lovell noted, “As part of the university community, we wanted to celebrate JMU’s centennial along with the rest of the university. The statue also gives us an opportunity to showcase the multiple disciplines and activities represented in the college.”
Rather than relying upon designs available through the committee, it was decided to utilize the college’s own talents. CISAT Creative Services was charged with coming up with a unique design that would represent the college. After a couple of ideas, staff graphic designer, Josh See came up with a design that was approved by Dr. Lovell and CISAT dean Jerry Benson. The winning design “captured essential elements of our departments and centers/institutes while demonstrating, through bringing all the sections to a single point, shared values and themes.”, according to Dr. Lovell who also liked the vivid colors used in the design. Once the design was chosen it was decided that See would also actually paint the statue. We’ll follow the progress of CISAT’s Duke Dog as it is completed in later articles.
Watch for an announcement about an opportunity to ‘name’ the CISAT Duke Dog! You will be able to vote from a selection of possible names. Statues were also sponsored by the College of Business and the College of Education.
Plans are still being finalized for the location of the CISAT Duke Dog’s display.
