Transfer Application Process

The application for the 2017-18 academic year closed on March 1, 2017. The Centennial Scholars Program application will be available in January 2018 for incoming transfer students in Fall 2018.

How to Apply

The application process has two phases; the eligibility phase and the interview phase. Applicants must be eligible for CSP in order to continue to the interview phase. The application process detailed below applies to incoming transfer students who plan to enter JMU in the Fall semester.

1. Eligibility

  • Apply to JMU
    • CSP accepts early-action and regular decision applicants. If you apply to JMU as a transfer, but are awaiting a response, you are still able to apply to CSP. We highly encourage you to apply as soon as the application window opens.
  • Review CSP Eligibility and Undergraduate Program Requirements.
    • Please note: All students must be Pell Grant Eligible and within a maximum Estimated Family Contribution (EFC) range to to qualify for an interview. All information provided on the FAFSA is preliminary until the JMU Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships can verify Pell Grant Eligibility.
  • Complete the online CSP Application.
    • Applications are available from mid-January to early-March.
    • You must have your JMU ID number to complete the CSP online application. Your JMU ID number is located in the JMU Applicant Center, under "Personal Information."
  • Applicants will be contacted via email in mid-to-late May regarding their application status. If all eligibility requirements are met, applicants will proceed to Phase Two of the CSP application process.

2. Interview

  • Schedule a time to participate in the mandatory on-campus interview.
    • Applications will receive a link via email to sign up for an interview time.
  • Attend the mandatory CSP interview.
    • Freshman interviews are held in the Student Success Center on the JMU campus, typically during the second or third week of June.
  • Within 1 week after all transfer CSP interviews have been conducted, applicants will be contacted regarding their final decision.
    • Financial eligibility only determines if applicants are able to receive an interview. The interview phase of the application process determines which students are accepted into the program.
    • Final determination of financial eligibility is made by the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships (OFAS). If OFAS determines that you are not Pell Grant eligible, CSP will not be able to accept you into the program.
