Interviewing Schedules
- You may schedule your visit to accommodate as many students as you wish to interview.
- Space is allocated based on the number of "schedules" (interview rooms) you require.
- One schedule generally progresses from 8:30am to 4:15pm, allowing for twelve 30-minute interviews.
- Morning, lunch and afternoon breaks are included.
- If you prefer longer interviews, please let us know when scheduling and we will provide 45 minute or 1 hour interview slots.
- Please be aware that our recruiting facility closes daily at 5pm, so we ask that you conclude your interviews prior to 5pm.
Information To Provide Our Office
- After establishing the interview date and number of schedules, we will also ask you to send:
- the position titles for which you are recruiting
- position descriptions; as detailed as possible
- the academic major(s) (if any) you prefer
- the geographic locations of the positions
- any special requirements or qualifications you wish the students to know
- information pertaining to pre-employment screening or testing required by your organization
- one copy of general organization literature
- a signed copy of the EEO statement if this is your first time recruiting at JMU
- whether you would like to schedule an accompanying program or presentation
- By making this information available to students before interview sign-ups, they will be able to select interviews relating to their career interests and qualifications.
What Type of Software is Used for Recruiting?
- Here at JMU, employers use MadisonTRAK, an online system for position postings and interview signups.
- Using the site, students can view your company and position information, submit resumes to positions they are interested in, and later sign up for interviews.
- Using the site, employers can post job announcements, select students to interview, print resumes, and view/print interview schedules.
Using InterviewTRAK to Select Students
- The student "Resume Submission Deadline" for your organization will be set for approximately 3 weeks prior to your interview date.
- Each student is required to submit a resume online. The resumes can be viewed online at any time, and after the resume submission deadline has passed, you will select the students you wish to interview.
- We will let you know based on the schedule you requested how many students to select.
- For example: If you requested two schedules of 30-minute interviews, and a schedule consists of 12 interviews, we'll ask you to choose 24 Preselect candidates and 2 to 4 Alternates.
- Preselect students will receive first priority when claiming interview times, then the Alternates will have a time period to sign up.
- If all interview time slots are not taken by Preselects or Alternates, they will be made available to any interested students the final two days of the signup period, unless you indicate otherwise on the Recruiting Information Form.
- InterviewTRAK allows you to view your schedule throughout the sign-up period to see how your schedule is building, and you may view and/or print your final schedule.
- More information on InterviewTRAK is available in the employer handbook.
Tips for Success
- Promoting your Company
- If you're hosting an information session before the interviews, make it dynamic and interesting. Ask recent grads in your organization for their participation, feedback, and input.
- Consider having a general information session before the pre-select deadlines to help them decide if they want to interview.
- Communication
- Email the students you've selected to interview and make personal contact with students whenever possible.
- Follow up promptly with students, throughout the hiring process.
- Communicate with the students who do not make it through the interview stage, so that they know their status and can improve in the future.
- Finally, please stay in touch with the students you have interviewed at JMU and with us. We value our partnerships and thank you for your interest in our students!
- Administration
- If you have requirements concerning GPA, citizenship, open signups, or other criteria, be sure to let us know about it before the job is posted online.
- If you need assistance using InterviewTRAK, please let us know.
Principles for Professional Conduct
- We would appreciate it if you would also review the Principles for Professional Conduct for Career Services and Employment Professionals taken from the National Association of Colleges & Employers (NACE) Principles statement: www.naceweb.org/principles/default.htm.
- Important Note for third party employers: Providing services to third party employers is at the discretion of the On-Campus Interviewing Program. To recruit through our programs, third party employers must adhere to the following guidelines: (1) Identify their status as a third party employer and the organization that they are representing; (2) A full description of each position will be required; (3) Included in the posting is the name of the company seeking to fill the position (in addition to the name of the third party employer); (4) No solicitations in any manner during any part of the recruiting process will be approved.
Before Your Visit
- A campus map, Harrisonburg accommodations and a "Your Day on Campus" email will be sent to you with your schedule confirmation information.
- If you have questions after receiving these materials, please contact our office.
- A parking permit will be issued to you upon arrival the day of your interviews.
- All interviews are in the Sonner Interview Center on the lower level of Sonner Hall, unless otherwise noted on your confirmation form.
- You may park temporarily in the circular driveway in front of Sonner Hall and come in to get your parking permit, then park your vehicle in the Recruiter spaces adjacent to Sonner or in the Visitor's parking across the street.
