JMU Archaeology field work.

Welcome to JMU archaeology! JMU archaeology is housed in the Anthropology program in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology and our home is the Grace Street Archaeology Lab, in the northern end of the Studio Art building.

Since 1975, JMU has offered courses in archaeology and conducted fieldwork throughout the state of Virginia. In recent years, JMU archaeologists and affiliated faculty have offered field schools for students at James Madison’s Montpelier, the American Southwest, and southern Italy.
