No truth to HIV rumor
NewsSUMMARY: Rumors of students testing positive for HIV are false.
A Statement from Dr. Andrew Guertler, MD - Medical Director of the University Health Center
Recently, we have become aware of a rumor circulating on campus that numerous students have been diagnosed with HIV at the University Health Center. This is completely false. The University Health Center has not diagnosed any students with HIV. We have also checked with the Virginia Department of Health in Harrisonburg and they have not diagnosed any students with HIV. So to confirm, there is no outbreak.
Despite this circulating rumor being absolutely untrue, we always encourage sexually active individuals to practice safer sex by having open conversations with sexual partners and utilizing barrier methods to decrease the risk of getting any sexually transmitted infection.
