March 18 Message to Alumni

News

The following communications was sent to JMU alumni on March 18 from Carrie Combs, Executive Director of the JMU Alumni Association.

Dear JMU Alum,

Because alumni are such valued members of the JMU community, we believe it is important to keep you informed and updated. This afternoon, the university made an important announcement regarding the remainder of the spring semester.

View the full announcement here.

Our new temporary reality means that all events through the end of the semester have been cancelled, postponed or moved to virtual formats. As you can imagine, our students are feeling a lot of emotions right now, especially our seniors who will miss out on those final spring days on campus that we cherished so much.

Without a doubt, this is an unprecedented time in our history as a university and a nation. However, one thing remains certain: Dukes look out for Dukes. And while social distancing is probably the last thing any of us would associate with the JMU community, we are also ready and willing to come together as a virtual community even when we shouldn't get together in person.

Please also continue to check jmu.edu/covid19 for the most up-to-date information, and contact covid19@jmu.edu with questions.

Take good care of yourselves, your family and your friends.

With deep appreciation,

Carrie Combs (’07, ’09M)
Executive Director, JMU Alumni Association
