Winter Weather Delays and Closings

News

As winter approaches, the James Madison University community is reminded that there are a number of ways to stay informed of the university's operating status during inclement weather. The following methods of communication will be used to communicate with students, faculty and staff in the event of a delay or closing.

Website

JMU's website, www.jmu.edu, will be the most accurate and comprehensive source of information about the university's operating status.

Weather Line

For those who are unable to access the Internet, JMU utilizes a dedicated weather line for weather-related announcements. To access this information, dial 433-5300.

Public Information Radio Station

In and around Harrisonburg, weather-related university updates will also be announced on the university's local public information radio station. That station is available at 1610 on your AM radio dial.

Twitter

New this year, JMU will announce weather-related closings and delays, as well as other news items, through Twitter. To receive Twitter updates including closings and delays, follow @JMUnews

Facebook

Become a fan of James Madison University on Facebook. Receive Facebook notifications whenever JMU's operating status changes because of inclement weather.

Local Media

JMU also notifies the local media when a weather-related closing or delay occurs. Because of the volume of closings and delays that the media outlets must report, they are limited in the detail they can provide about JMU's operating status. Always double-check the information you receive from the media outlets against information on the JMU website. Local media outlets who are notified of JMU's operating status include WSVA radio (550 AM), WMRA radio (90.7 FM) and WHSV television (broadcast channel 3 or Comcast channel 11) among others.
