Wed, 29 Nov 2023 12:30 PM - 1:30 PM
In this Read and Dialogue, join colleagues to discuss this (relatively brief) article, “A Culture of Speed: Anticipation, Acceleration & Individualization in Academic Science” and exchange ideas around the benefits, challenges, and opportunities around accelerated academy. With the new R2 status, faculty may perceive the expectations of scholarly productivity and excellence in research have been increased. How does this change affect the culture of academia? How do faculty members navigate in the academic culture of fast-pace and high-pressure? What does this culture of speed mean at JMU? What are the benefits and harms? To whose benefit are we racing?
Program Date and Time: Wednesday, 11/29, from 12:30-1:30pm
Location: Online (The Zoom link will be provided either with the email registration confirmation or by email the day before the event.)
Facilitator: Shin Ji Kang, COE and CFI
Program Outcomes:
- Reflecting the benefits and harms of fast-paced academic culture to individuals, disciplines, and the society.
