About Stratford Players
|
| Stratford Players is the "oldest
continuously running campus organization in JMU history." The
student drama organization is open to theatre and dance majors and non-majors. Members have a significant voice in play selection and budget decisions.
LEARN MORE ABOUT STRATFORD PLAYERS HISTORY
Stratford players is open to all members of the campus community. We
consider and discuss matters regarding JMU theatre: upcoming guests, auditions, workshops,
shows, and other related extracurricular activities. We discuss student-written
proposals and vote on them prior to the faculty's consideration. Also, Stratford
Players is a great opportunity for people devoted to this profession to get
involved and try out new aspects of theatre.
Any Questions? Contact Sade Namei at nameisx@jmu.edu for more info or simply
come to a Stratford Players meeting . We usually meet twice a month on Wednesday. Also, join the JMU Stratford Players
on Facebook. Updated information is available on our call-board in Theatre II, and soon, online,
on our own website. Also, join our mailing list to get accounts of our meetings and hear about more
opportunities in the theatre.

EXPERIMENTAL
THEATRE PROPOSALS
FOR FALL 2006 ARE DUE
TUES., Oct 4th, 5:00pm
Those who wish to schedule time in the Experimental Theatre for fall
2006 must hand in complete proposals by Tuesday, Oct 4 at 5:00 p.m.The
proposer is responsible for providing a copy of the proposal to each
faculty and staff member. Mary K. should receive three copies, two for
the student members of the selection committee and one for the files. A new
cover sheet has been
developed and is available in the student office and online. It requires
the signature of the faculty advisor. THE PROPOSAL MUST INCLUDE the new
1 page COVER SHEET, and a COPY OF THE LETTER OR OTHER COMMUNICATION
WHICH GIVES PERMISSION TO PERFORM THE PLAY AT JMU. Proposals for
original material should include a copy of the script. THE
MAXIMAL/MINIMAL DISTINCTION IS NO LONGER IN EFFECT, There will be five
slots available. The dates for slots will be set in advance. The
scheduling committee, made up of successful proposers and the faculty
Experimental Theatre supervisor, will negotiate who gets which slot. All
proposals must use the cover sheet to identify the play, the director,
the design and production crew, the faculty supervisor, and any other
key personnel. The proposals must contain a budget, and an explanation
of how the production is to be realized. Special attention should be
given to how various production problems will be solved; for example
will costumes be built, bought, found or requested from stock? How will
the set be realized and the seating units configured? Is there music and
is it live or recorded? It is impossible to anticipate all the questions
that should be answered for each individual production, but these
examples should provide some guidelines. The proposal process is
competitive and therefore the strongest argument possible should be
presented; this means that proposals should be well written, detailed,
and attempt to anticipate any questions that the committee might have.
In addition to content of the proposal, individual faculty members may
consider other factors including (but not limited to) the proposer's
academic standing and performance, previous theatre experience, and fulfillment
of previous theatrical and academic responsibilities. PROPOSERS ARE
STRONGLY URGED TO WORK WITH A FACULTY MEMBER IN PREPARING THE PROPOSAL
AND TO CONSULT THE EXPERIMENTAL THEATRE POLICY POSTED ON THE WEB PAGE. The
meeting of only theatre faculty and staff to discuss proposals will be
held on Wednesday, Oct 11th at 3:30 PM in Room 11 of Theatre II.
A meeting of the theatre faculty and staff and two Stratford
representatives to discuss and select proposals will be held on Wed.
Oct 18th at 4:00 PM, TH II- ROOM 11. THOSE SUBMITTING
PROPOSALS OR THEIR REPRESENTATIVES MUST BE AT THE Oct 18th MEETING.
The meeting to allot slots among the proposers selected will be held
immediately after the meeting, or as soon after as is practical, and
will be announced at that meeting.
