Associate Vice President, Student Success
ASSISTING students into, through and out of the
university; HELPING every student develop their own self
responsibility and motivation to learn; ORGANIZING JMU programs and
services to be cohesive, supportive and based on common goals. This
office oversees: Career and Academic Planning, Advising in the majors, Community Service Learning, Learning Resource Centers and Disability Services, and Orientation.

We are intent upon creating a high quality living
and working environment that will support students' ability to
become educated and enlightened citizens. This office oversees:
Residence Life, University Unions (formerly known as The University and College Centers), University Recreation and acts as the university Ombudsman. This office is also responsible for student WITHDRAWALS from the university.

Celebrating Diversity, Improving Understanding, Creating
Learning Opportunities and Promoting Health and Well-being for our
community. This office oversees: Center for Multicultural Student Services, Counseling
& Student Development Center and University Health Center
University
Planning & Analysis
The office of University Planning and Analysis
collects, analyzes and communicates information to support the
decision-making and planning processes of JMU. This office oversees
Institutional Research.
Departments
Career and Academic Planning (formerly known as Academic Advising and Career Development ~ AACD)
Career and Academic Planning assists students with academic and career
planning. This assistance includes helping students to: choose or
change a major, select appropriate academic programs to attain
their academic goals, develop career goals, explore career interests
through internships and summer employment, and implement a job
search or research graduate study.
Community Service-Learning is a partnership joining JMU students, faculty, staff and the surrounding communities by identifying and coordinating intentional service opportunities to cultivate social responsibility and life-long learning, thereby fostering a generation of leaders committed to positive social change.
Counseling Center
The Counseling and Student Development Center provides preventive,
developmental and therapeutic mental health services founded on
solid professional psychological standards of practice to
the James Madison University student Community. Through its services the Center aids
students in resolving personal and interpersonal conflicts,
developing healthy and satisfying lifestyles and enhancing their
educational development.
Disability Services
The Office of Disability Services works to ensure
that all students with documented disabilities have both an equal
opportunity and equal access to JMU's programs and services. Our
goal is to coordinate and provide reasonable accommodations,
support services and programs that enable students with
disabilities to maximize their educational potential and grow in
the developmental process of transition to higher education,
independence and effective self-advocacy.
Institutional Research
The Office of Institutional Research assists the
university in the pursuit of its mission by dynamically and
efficiently supporting decision-making, accountability and
planning. Our primary functions
are:
developing, collecting, and communicating measures
of institutional effectiveness, providing
management information and policy analysis and promoting the university's planning process compiling and reporting mandated information.
Judicial Affairs
The Office of Judicial Affairs promotes student
learning, civic responsibility, and respect for individual student
rights and community standards through both outreach and sanctioned
programs. Judicial Affairs develops, disseminates, and enforces
university policies and provides a fair and impartial process for
airing student concerns. Our goal is to help students gain an
awareness of a common responsibility to the community through
involvement in the judicial process, hearings, and
council.
Multicultural Student Services
The Center for Multicultural Student
Services remains steadfast in assisting the University in its
overall goal of promoting diversity. Towards this effort, the
Center seeks to retain students of color through encouraging and promoting their active participation in all-available programs, services, curricula and activities while preserving their cultural identity. The Center also seeks to encourage students of color to achieve and maintain academic excellence while assisting them in making successful adjustments to university life.
think. choose. live. learn. At Orientation we're going to help you get started at JMU so that you learn and grow as much as possible while you are here. From Summer Springboard Orientation in June and July and 1787 Orientation in August, to First Year Adventures and Learning Communities, we are going to introduce you to all that JMU offers. Orientation is part of what we call the First-Year Experience. You'll call it the beginning of the greatest year of your life.
Residence Life
The Office of Residence Life is about living and
learning. Staff and financial resources are invested to create a
safety conscious, fun, and educational environment. ORL's First Year Involvement program provides first-year
students with social, emotional, and academic support as they
adjust to life at JMU. Over 1,600 programs and activities take
place in JMU residence halls each year.
University Unions (formerly known as: University and College Centers)
The University Unions are at the heart of community
life at James Madison University.
The University Unions take pride in providing facilities, services, and
programs that enhance the quality of life of the JMU community and
their guests, with a particular focus on students. The University Unions
foster opportunities for interaction and encourage the exchange of
ideas in an environment that promotes respect for all people by
supporting student learning and valuing diversity.
University Health Center
The University Health Center partners with students to
encourage personal responsibility for their well-being by providing
primary care and education in a professional and collaborative
manner.
University Recreation
University Recreation promotes and advances healthy lifestyles
through participation opportunities, educational experiences and
supportive services. Our qualified staff is committed to excellence
and attentive to the developmental needs of our
participants.
