What is Research?

Despite popular opinion, research here at JMU is not conducted only in a laboratory or during countless hours in the library.  JMURJ logo

The James Madison Undergraduate Research Journal strives to publish research from every branch of study across campus! We’re actively accepting submissions from all JMU disciplines, be they critical reviews of an artistic piece, business plans, multimedia projects, or elaborations of a mathematical sequence.

There are just three basic requirements for submissions:

  • Text-based submissions should be between 2,000–6,000 words, and multimedia submissions should be neither too long or too short and understandable as research.
  • Submissions should be informed by credible primary or secondary research appropriate to your discipline.
  • Submissions should be accessible to a diverse academic readership.

Over the past two years, students in Archaeology, Art History, Biology, Communications, Engineering, English, Foreign Languages, Geography, Gender Studies, Health Sciences, History, Humanities, Intelligence Analysis, Journalism, Justice Studies, Marketing, Media Arts and Design, Philosophy, Political Science, and Writing and Rhetoric have submitted their work to JMURJ.

Is your department or discipline on the list? Why not change that by submitting your work to JMURJ? Take the plunge, experience the academic journal publication process here on campus, and share your hard-won disciplinary expertise with readers here at JMU and beyond.
