ORL currently employs over 200 students to serve in RA positions in the residence halls on campus.
RAs are dynamic leaders on a floor of residents who create positive communities and coordinate fun & educational events to enhance the on-campus living experience. RAs receive a salary, and if possible, a single room on campus. They are still responsible for paying all tuition, room & board, and fees.

Hall Director - Full Time
Full Time HDs manage our largest buildings (Eagle, Chesapeake, Apartments on Grace Street, Potomac, Shenandoah). When full time HD positions become available, we will post them immediately on JMU’s JobLink.

Hall Director - Graduate
Graduate HD positions are reserved initially for students in the College Student Personnel Administration (CSPA) graduate program. This is an assistantship position which pays for tuition and also provides a stipend.
If we do not fill our graduate HD positions with CSPA students, we will review assistantship applicants from other JMU graduate programs in late spring.

Hall Director - Undergraduate
ORL currently employs 15-17 undergraduate HDs each year to manage a building and supervise a staff of RAs.
Undergraduate HDs receive an apartment and a salary. They are still responsible for paying all tuition and fees.
The Office of Residence Life Business Operations Area offers student positions as Facilities Assistants. Facilities Assistants perform the following duties:
- Install, deliver and move furniture
- Make deliveries for ORL
- Assist in maintaining ORL inventories
- Help with building inspections and furniture repairs
Facilities Assistants are hired as both full time (40 hours per week) during the summer and part-time (15 hours per week) during the academic year.

The Graphic Designer is responsible for layout and design of monthly newsletters, departmental publications, logos, promotional materials, and other assignments
The Graphic Designer receives a salary.

The Office of Residence Life offers student employment as Office Assistants.
Office Assistant positions are posted on the Student Employment website as they become available
Program Advisers assist all JMU Resident Advisers (RAs) with programming, motivation, and publicity, but their main focus is to help first year students in their transition to JMU.
PAs work in the First Year Involvement Center and receive a salary.

Although the university will be closed on Memorial Day and July 4, the summer hall will remain open and will need to be staffed. Some requests for time off may not be honored.
