Opening of Chesapeake Avenue Parking Deck:

The new Chesapeake Avenue Parking Deck will open during the fall 2018 semester and will provide approximately 625 additional commuter spaces near the North Campus and Quad areas. The deck will be located at the corner of Grace Street and Chesapeake Avenue. A portion of the space in the deck will occasionally be reserved for use by Hotel Madison and Shenandoah Valley Conference Center patrons; refer to posted signs and space counts for changes in allocations.

Levels 2 – 7 of the Grace Street Parking Deck, previously allocated for faculty/staff parking during daytime hours, have been reallocated for commuter student parking 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Partial closure and reallocation of C12 Lot:

Approximately 60 spaces in C12 Lot, the commuter parking lot across from the Festival on Carrier Drive, have been closed as part of the Union Bank & Trust Center construction project. An additional 80 spaces have been reallocated as faculty/staff parking due to the closure of the former D3 Lot across from the Festival. Alternate commuter parking is available in C10 and C11 Lots on East Campus, Convo lots A, B, D, E and F on University Boulevard, or any other commuter “C” or resident “R” parking lot.

Closure of Convo G Lot:

Convo G Lot, the parking lot on Driver Drive across from the JMU Arboretum, has been permanently closed as part of the land bridge construction project. Alternate commuter parking is available in Convo A, B, D, E and F Lots on University Boulevard.

Reallocation of space on Champions Drive Parking Deck Level G:

60 spaces on level G of the Champions Drive Parking Deck have been reallocated for commuter student use. Refer to posted signs.

Consider alternative transportation and parking options:

Parking Services encourages all students to consider a variety of transportation options to reduce the number of single occupancy vehicles on campus. Carpool permits are available to groups of three students, cutting the cost of a permit by 2/3 for each student. Remote parking is available in R10 Lot at 1/3 of the cost of a regular commuter permit, with Harrisonburg Public Transit buses available nearby to the Godwin Transit Center and other campus destinations. Transit buses are also available at all major student apartment complexes and throughout the city of Harrisonburg, and are available at no charge to JMU students. Visit www.jmu.edu/transportation for more information about campus transportation options.
