Beyond worsening humanitarian situation, Iraq faces 'crisis of spirit'

As the humanitarian situation in Iraq continues to deteriorate, relief efforts are faced with three main challenges: access, shelter and the deadly winter. UN agencies and partners are trying to beat the winter by working to provide food, health care and shelter for the hundreds of thousands of people in need of support in the coming weeks. 

"...what is needed is a massive effort with a sustained sense of urgency, noting that while the security situation in Iraq and the region has captured global attention, the humanitarian situation deserves equal attention."
