(Shafaq) Iraq's Ministries of Planning and Environment have outlined a strategy to clear landmines by 2028, addressing urgent environmental and developmental needs. The plan emphasizes government commitment and seeks international assistance to tackle the extensive contamination, with an estimated 6,000 square kilometers affected. Minister Nizar Amidi stresses the importance of global support to overcome challenges hindering progress.

Iraq's history of conflicts, including those with ISIS and the fallout from previous wars, has left vast areas contaminated. Securing funding and coordinating efforts are crucial to achieve a mine-free status, essential for environmental sustainability and safe development across the nation.
