Giving back is generational for Joe ('79) and Debbie ('78) Showker and their daughter Christen ('12,'13M). They are carrying on a tradition of support started by Joe's father, the late Zane Showker. Joe and Debbie, with long careers teaching in Rockingham County schools, now watch as Christen, a fourth-grade teacher, continues the family tradition. Not only are generations of Showkers committed to students in their own classrooms, their commitment extends to all aspects of JMU, including alumni relations, athletics and academics, especially business, education and psychology. Through their support, they are enhancing the future of Madison students who will in turn make their own marks on the world—generation after generation.
