Boca Tuya, the New York dance phenomenon, lights up the Forbes stage April 13 and 14

Boca Tuya, the New York-based dance incubator led by acclaimed choreographer Omar Román De Jesús, takes the stage at the Forbes Center for the Performing Arts at James Madison University on April 13 and 14, 2024.   

Drawing inspiration from diverse influences, Boca Tuya offers a unique and exhilarating experience that transcends borders and cultures. Since 2018, they have stood firm in their commitment to visibility and artistic excellence, proudly showcasing the talents of New York’s foremost movement artists, all while fostering a company culture centered on the welfare, financial security, and individual triumphs of their dancers.   

Boca Tuya aims to create visibility for emerging LatinX/a/o leaders in the arts by advocating for more opportunities while providing diverse experiences for mature contemporary artists.   

Román De Jesús is a 2023 Baryshnikov Arts Center inaugural fellow at Kaatsbaan Cultural Park in New York, a 2022 Princess Grace Award winner, and a 2022 New York State Council on the Arts/New York Foundation for the Arts Artist Fellow in Choreography. His gift for creating captivating works that reflect his cultural heritage while highlighting rhythmic narratives through classical and contemporary dance forms is driven by an inventive movement of vocabulary. He has been commissioned to create work for more than 20 premier dance companies and universities nationwide.   

Boca Tuya will perform in the Earlynn J.
