Political Boundaries in 1790

This map is Territorial Growth 1790 from the U.S. National Atlas, 1970. The states of the United States are shown in the dark shading; the territories are in light shading. Spanish claims are shown in medium shading. The dashed line show disputed areas. Vermont is a de factor state and officially becomes the 14th state in 1791. Kentucky is shown as part of Virginia although Virginia has already renounced it claims. Kentucky becomes the 15th state in 1792. The outline of West Virginia is shown, but West Virginia becomes a separate state much later, during the Civil War.
