In February, 2008, the university introduced a new model for funding ideas - research, projects, new/improved products, and new/improved services. Annually, any faculty or staff member will have the opportunity to apply to make a presentation in January to Dr. Rose, the senior vice presidents, AVP’s and deans, for funding at what is being called the Annual JMU Innovation Conference. It’s an opportunity to make a direct proposal for funding for innovation, new programs, improved processes, research, etc. Funding will be awarded each year to projects based on parameters such as alignment with university mission/vision/values, demonstrated potential value to the department or university, area of focus, etc. All persons who make a presentation at the annual conference will:

.....Have an opportunity for funding
.....Receive feedback on their presentation, being informed in a timely manner whether funding was awarded, the amount, and why/why not.
.....Receive suggestions for improving the idea for future proposals

Among the prerequisites for qualifying to make a presentation at the conference is attendance at one of the JMU Innovation Workshops. This session will provide background on the university’s approach to innovation as well as training for the presentational model to be used to award funding. The session is free and will include a working lunch.

(A $50.00 departmental fee will be charged for cancellations made less than five business days prior to the workshop selected.)
