From: The Gallery at Festival
Following along with the theme of Human Rights in Africa in the current exhibit at The Gallery at Festival, Africana Studies, Center for Economic Education and IDLS bring you Culture Klatsch today, Monday (April 14th) from 7 to 9 in the Highlands Room in Festival.
In conjunction with the exhibit, we have a lecture series called Culture Klatsch. It's in collaboration with Africana Studies, Center for Economic Education and IDLS. The first program of its kind at JMU designed with IDLS students in mind, it is an effort to bring their college experiences closer to their future careers as teachers. JMU experts will present information on SOL-relevant cultures to both students and current pK-12 teachers along with the general public. The topics include History of Ancient Mali, West African Culture, Mansa Musa, Timbuktu and Islam as well as Gold salt, slave trade and European exploration.
Everyone is welcome to attend, enjoy refreshments and listen to some of JMU's own experts discuss West Africa. For more information, please e-mail stevenke@jmu.edu.
