The inaugural address of the Lecture on the History and Philosophy of Christianity series will be delivered by Dr. Myron S. Augsburger at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 2, in the Memorial Hall Auditorium at James Madison University. Memorial Hall is located on High Street at what was formerly Harrisonburg High School. Dr. Augsburger's topic for the lecture will be Christian faith and history. Admission is free and open to the public.

Myron S. Augsburger has served in many contexts, from the local church to international preaching missions, including many ecumenical efforts across the United States, Canada, Middle East, India, Africa, the Orient, and South America.

He has served as an evangelist, church planter and pastor, as well as the moderator of his denomination -- the Mennonite Church. He has five earned degrees, including a Th.D. from Union Theological Seminary. He has served as President of Eastern Mennonite University from 1965 to 1980, as Professor of Theology at Eastern Mennonite University, and as President of the Council of Christian Colleges and Universities, 1988-94. He currently serves on the Board of Trustees of the Mahatma Gandhi Center for Global Nonviolence at James Madison University. He is the author of many articles and more than 20 books.

The Lecture on the History and Philosophy of Christianity series was established earlier this year by the Mahatma Gandhi Center for Global Nonviolence at James Madison University as part of its Lecture Series in Religious Traditions encouraging cross-civilizational dialogue. Each year an eminent scholar of Christian studies will be invited to Harrisonburg to lecture as part of the series.
