Tired of all the traffic on campus and waiting endlessly for parking spots?
Join the Clean Energy Coalition and HDPT on Wednesday, April 2nd for JMU’s first ever ‘No Drive Day’. Walk, bus, carpool, bike, skateboard, rollerblade, skip, stagger… use your imagination!
Not only will you save on gas money and reduce vehicle emissions (including those pesky greenhouse gasses), you will also have the opportunity to win FREE STUFF:
* All students taking the bus from any apartment complex will receive a FREE T- SHIRT (designed by JMU students) from HDPT (limited supply - only 5,000 T- Shirts)!
* All students using alternative transportation on April 2nd can enter a raffle featuring prizes from on and off-campus (including free flex, bookstore giftcards, B-Dubs, and many more off-campus locations). Booths will be set up in front of ISAT, on the commons, and on the quad. Stop by any location to enter!
* Cyclists and pedestrians will be offered FREE REFRESHMENTS at all booth locations.
* The closest parking spaces in the C-10 lot (beside ISAT) and C-4 lot (next to Hillside) will be reserved for High Occupancy Vehicle’s (2+ passengers) during the morning commute (7:30-10:30). These changes will take place only on April 2nd and will be enforced by Parking Services. You must have a parking pass to park in these spots. Apart from the HOV sections of the C-4 and C-10 lots, parking on campus will be enforced as usual. Drive a friend to campus and score an awesome spot!
We will be using traffic counters to determine the impact of your effort in reducing traffic, so celebrate spring by leaving your car at home!
Interested in your environmental impact? Approximately twenty pounds of CO2 are created for every gallon of gasoline consumed. A simple three-mile trip back and forth to campus generates 2.5 pounds of CO2!
JMU’s No Drive Day is sponsored by: JMU Clean Energy Coalition, Harrisonburg Department of Public Transportation, and the JMU Police Department.
