The Center for Instructional Technology would like to invite faculty to participate in its Faculty Forums for fall 2006. The topic of the first Faculty Forum is:

"E-learning and Student Engagement"
Friday, September 29, 11:30 — 1:30 in Carrier Library 109

A panel of JMU faculty will lead a lively discussion of ways in which to promote student engagement, especially in technology enhanced environments, and how the challenges and opportunities for engagement may be similar to or different from those in a classroom.

Professors Melissa Aleman (Communication Studies), Charles Harris (Psychology), Michael Moghtader (The Writing Program), and Diane Wilcox (Human Resource Development) will facilitate the discussion.

Box lunches and refreshments will be provided. Please RSVP by September 18 to Cheryl Lantz: lantz1ct@jmu.edu

Please mark your calendars also for these upcoming CIT Faculty Forums:

October 20: "Innovation Incubator"
This will be a brainstorming session focusing on areas of faculty interest in developing online or technology-enhanced degree programs, credit and non-credit courses, certificate programs, and outreach activities. This Forum, co-hosted in partnership with the College of Graduate and Outreach Programs, invites faculty to come and share their suggestions for programmatic innovations. 11:30 — 1:30. Location TBA.

November 17: "The future of E-Learning"
The theme of this Forum will be a discussion of future directions and emerging developments in educational technologies, such as open source, open access, new social technologies, and the future of learning management systems. 11:30 — 1:30. Location TBA.
