ART WORKS AND NEW IMAGE OPENING RECEPTION | |

From: School of Art & Art History On behalf of School of Art & Art History I welcome the JMU community and the public to the inaugural opening reception for the school's new exhibition galleries located at 131 Grace Street. The reception will take place from 5 - 9PM on Monday March 20 at 131 Grace Street, floor two.This special Premiere Opening Reception will feature a welcome and introduction to the exhibiting artists at 5:30pm by Leslie Bellavance, Director of the School of Art & Art History, and Dr. Marilou Johnson, Interim Dean, College of Visual and Performing Arts. Following the welcome, Corinne Diop will give a brief talk about the juried photography exhibit in New Image Gallery. Refreshments will be served. The student galleries formerly located in Zirkle House (Artworks, Other, and Madison Galleries) and the professional photography gallery (New Image Gallery) have relocated to 131 Grace Street on the second floor. The three student galleries will share a large open exhibition space with movable walls and will operate under the single name artWorks Gallery. The gallery will continue to feature undergraduate and graduate student work and will continue to be fully student-run. New Image Gallery will be located in a separate space adjacent to artWorks Gallery and will continue to highlight international work by professional photographers. Information about the exhibits: artWorks Gallery Exhibition dates: March 20 — April 1, 2006 Bethany Tobin will exhibit paintings and drawings, Stephen Smith will exhibit paintings and installation work, and Alexis Millan will exhibit drawings. Summary: artWorks Gallery is JMU's student-run gallery. The gallery offers "Free Coffee Fridays", an opportunity to see art and have a free cup o' joe. Regular gallery hours are Monday — Thursday, 12-5pm; Friday and Saturday, 12-4pm. Information about the exhibit: New Image Gallery Exhibition Dates: March 20 - April 25, 2006 Summary: This regional competition features artwork with photography as a primary medium. Bio of Juror: Gina Fuentes Walker is a nationally recognized photographer and Co-Founder and Director of HOAST/Harlem Open Artist Studio Tour and artHARLEM.
