Are you looking for a way to connect with students on a one-to-one basis? Do you want to see firsthand the impact your conversations and interactions have on students? If so, I encourage you to learn more about the Civic Learning Mentor program run through the Office of Judicial Affairs. You can join the ranks of over 100 volunteers, including a growing number of over 20 teaching faculty.
Students in the Civic Learning Program are assigned a mentor as a result of being found responsible for violating university policy. These students have been identified as needing some guidance in understanding their personal mission and goals or as having difficulty adjusting to JMU. Please take a few moments to explore our web site, www.jmu.edu/judicial/civiclearning.
If you are interested in becoming a mentor, contact Greg Meyer at meyergi@jmu.edu for more information.
Being a mentor takes just one hour a week and the experience offers huge benefits for the mentor and mentee alike. I sincerely hope you will consider getting involved in this wonderful program.
