Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence Application Deadline

From: Office of the Special Assistant to the President for Faculty Diversity

Supporting Faculty Diversity Through Internationalization - Three Fulbright Programs To Benefit Your Department (Supporting Internationalization and Faculty Diversity at JMU)

The information below has been taken from the Fulbright website at www.cies.org

1) The Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence Program (Application Deadline is 15 October 2009)

The Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence (SIR) Program assists institutions historically underrepresented in international academic exchange and allows scholars outside the United States to gain experience in U.S. higher education.

2) Also, consider visiting the Fulbright site to see the 2009/10 Visiting Scholars Program under the The Occasional Lecturer Program (OLP). This program allows you to invite International Fulbrighers who are already in the United States to speak at JMU. This is open throughout the academic year.

Direct from the Fulbright site information:
The program provides travel awards that enable scholars to accept guest lecturing invitations at colleges and universities. OLP Awards are granted at three different levels, depending upon the distance traveled. CIES determines the award amounts.

Occasional lecturers can:
Offer department- or school-wide lectures to students and/or faculty.
Lecture to classes where the scholar can make a contribution to the discipline, meet with faculty for an exchange of ideas and engage in informal discussions with students.

Additional funds are available for scholars who wish to visit institutions that serve predominantly minority student populations.

In the fall, the Directory of Fulbright Visiting Scholars, which lists all visiting scholars who are in the United States for the current academic year, is posted online at www.cies.org. You are encouraged to use this directory to find information about and extend invitations to scholars whose research or lecturing topics are of interest.
