Harrisonburg, VA – The Arts Council of the Valley will present the Spring 2009 Museum and Gallery Walk from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, April 3 in downtown Harrisonburg.
Art exhibitions and live music will bring the city to life as more than 20 venues are scheduled to participate in the celebration.
“For our spring event, the Arts Council will exhibit ceramic works of art by Sukjin Choi, an art professor at James Madison University, and her students,” said Cecilia Carter Browne, executive director of the Arts Council. The ceramic exhibition opens with a reception at the Smith House, which is located at 311 S. Main Street, and will remain on view throughout April.
The JMU community can discover a full slate of interesting and enriching cultural programs happening in and around Court Square and along Market and Main Streets during the event. A few highlights of the evening’s activities include:
Clementine Cafe will host a MACRock panel discussion and a collaborative art installation by Tampa Bay artist Lynda Bostrom and JMU photographer Jessica Crawford;
Court Square Theater will present a series of MACRock concerts;
Massanutten Regional Library will sponsor the Altered Books Contest and a group of musicians will perform Reggae music on the library’s Main Street courtyard;
Cally’s Restaurant and Brewery will feature photographs of Virginia’s apple orchards by Bridgewater College professor Scott Jost;
Oasis Gallery will sponsor the Spring Community Drawing Project (a hands-on project) and masks by Janet Marshman;
The Virginia Quilt Museum will open its doors for a free viewing of the Floral Abundance exhibition; and
Downtown Wine and Gourmet will host live music by the Acoustic Pool Party.
