History 1908 Established by the Virginia General Assembly as the State Normal and Industrial School for Women at Harrisonburg.
1914 Name changed to The State Normal School for Women at Harrisonburg.
1924 Name changed to the State Teachers College at Harrisonburg.
1938 Name changed to Madison College in honor of the fourth President of the United States.
1966 By action of the Virginia General Assembly, became a coeducational institution.
1977 Name changed to James Madison University.
CAMPUS SIZE 495 acres, including 31 acres at the University Farm.

CENTER		 A 7,600 seat, $10.8 million sports and entertainment arena designed for basketball, concerts, and other sports and entertainment events.
ATHLETIC
PROGRAM 		More than 500 student athletes compete in 14 men's and 14 women's sports, including archery, baseball, basketball,  fencing, field hockey, football, golf, gymnastics, lacrosse, soccer, softball, swimming/diving, tennis, track/cross-country, volleyball, and wrestling.
