Established by Dr. Mary Latimer Cordner in November 1985.  Mary Latimer was born in Ridgetown, Ontario in 1895.  She left Canada at the age of 21 after teaching for two years on a one-room schoolhouse.  She earned her B.A. in French from Hiram College in Hiram, Ohio in 1919.  She then studied at the Curry School of Expression in Boston and the University of London before earning an M.A. and Ph.D. at the University of Wisconsin. In 1945 she joined the faculty of Madison College and taught here until her retirement in 1965, when she was named a professor emeritus.  She was the first woman to hold the position of Theater Director here.  In 1965 she married Blaine Cordner, a radio and Broadway actor.  She died at home in Fairfax, Virginia in May 1992.  She is the Latimer of Latimer-Shaeffer Theater.
